I really love the amaryllis because it is often given as a gift at Christmas and will bloom in your home when the days are dreary (if you live in Ohio). One day there's nothing, then suddenly there is 6 inches of growth in one or two days. This one belongs to a friend and we painted it together on a Tuesday morning in class. These flowers grow from a bulb and I don't think I have ever seen an amaryllis growing outside.
